Nature ensures sustainability with seed as harvest and harvest as seed

At a point where the “fight” with nature to produce food fails, it is time make peace and go back to the heirloom seeds that have stood the test of time. The Seed Network established by Buğday Association in 2009 brought the organisations, associations, governmental bodies and individuals together around one common goal: Preserving the local, heirloom seeds. The network is working towards making sure that all the local seeds are taken into account, preserved and exchanged.

One member of the network, Yer Gök Anadolu Derneği, bought the last two tonnes of kavılca wheat seeds and distributed them to farmers in 100 kg bundles. Now over 200 farmers produce kavılca wheat around the Kars region.

The strongest resistance to GMO crops in Turkey is put up by the Anti-GMO platform (GDO’ya Hayır Platformu), of which Buğday is an active member.
